Getting the call that you are getting drafted is every single young athlete’s dream to make. Strongsville alum Blake Miller achieved that dream.
Blake, who graduated in 2022, had a phenomenal high school career. As a freshman and fourteen year old, he was a two-way starter as a lineman. He was named All State, All Region, and All District. In his junior and senior years, he did not allow a single sack.
He committed to Clemson after a number of offers, including Ohio State. He started all four years for the Tigers, becoming only one of four true freshmen to start for the team since 1972. He was regularly selected All Atlantic Conference, and he ended his college career by setting a record for offensive snaps from scrimmage, with 3778 snaps through 54 career starts.
Prior to the NFL draft, rumors circulated that Miller would be called up, but on draft night, he became a first round draft pick when the Detroit Lines picked him in the seventeenth spot, being drafted even earlier than

predicted.
The call came on April 23 as he was surrounded by family, graduated friends, his brother Storm Miller, who will be playing football at Texas A&M next year, and a number of current SHS football players in Strongsville.
Playing sports itself is already hard enough but being able to play at the college level and getting drafted is even harder. There is less than a 3% chance to go pro in football. Miller, who had a phenomenal college career, was the anchor for the Clemson Tigers and was one of the top recruited linemen for the draft and top linemen in college football.
Being a first round draft pick is even rarer, indicating an athlete is one of the top players in his sport.
Miller entered the draft without the national hype that follows all of the top prospects, but his film and playmaking reflected consistent growth. Raised in a small-town environment where recognition was limited, he built his reputation through disciplined work and hard improvement rather than giving up. His high school career drew a lot of attention, and he was viewed as a major recruit.
With the draft behind him, Miller now moves on to the next phase of his career where he will compete for a role at the professional level. His path in the future will depend on his ability to adapt to increased competition and continue the development that defined his rise to this point.
