Say Yes to the Prom Dress

Finding the right prom dress depends on personal style
Say Yes to the Prom Dress

Finding the perfect dress is every high school girl’s dream when prom season rolls around. But what makes the perfect dress? It really depends on every girl’s authentic style and aesthetic. Everyone has a different vision when it comes time to saying yes to the dress.

There are a variety of styles like long flowy dresses that will make someone feel like a mermaid, big ball gown dresses that feel like a princess, or even just a simple dress that makes everything all come together. Every year social media platforms are full of girls posting in any prom dress one can think of and this year will be no different. Whether the goal is to fit in or stand out, everyone finds their perfect dress to wear on prom night.

Shayler Smith, 12, and Michael Rusinko, 12, attend their first high school dance, Homecoming, during their freshman year. Smith chose a much more elaborate dress for her last high school dance, Prom.

¨I was looking for a dress that I would never be able to wear again because you only get one senior prom, so I wanted to go all out. I knew I wanted something super sparkly and kind of a statement dress. Ever since I was little, I thought about what my prom dress would look like and I was super excited to try on dresses and pick one out,¨ Shayler Smith, 12, said.

While shopping for a perfect dress can be exciting, some girls can feel anxious or scared they will never find a dress that will satisfy them, or even have feelings of sadness that prom marks the end of their high school journey.

¨When I was shopping for my prom dress, I felt kind of happy and kind of sad at the same time. It was a little bit bittersweet just because I went to prom last year, but this year is going to be my last prom and I am sad about it because I’m never going to get to experience another one. It’s just bittersweet, but I’m happy to be going to prom with my best friends and the people that love me,¨ Mariana Ponce, 12, said.

Some girls don’t have a right away vision of what they want their dress to be. It sometimes takes time to find what they like and don’t like. Finding inspiration is big when it comes to shopping for a prom dress, and there are many things that can impact the decision when it comes to narrowing down the one that is to be the favorite.

¨I found a lot of inspiration from Tik Tok or just from my friends. And I knew I didn’t want to have the same color as my close friends and the group I was going with, so I guess that was inspiration to not get that color,¨ Evie Coutris, 12, said.

When going shopping some girls don’t have any idea where to start or what they want, but for some girls it just came right to them.

¨Some elements I was looking for is I wanted a strap and I wanted my gown to be flowy. I didn’t really have a thought of what my dream prom dress could be, but I wanted to kind of look like a princess. I knew I wanted to have a blue prom dress, and blue has always been my favorite color. And honestly my dream prom dress is the one I’mm going to be wearing because it had everything I was looking for,” Keerthana Ragupathi, 12, said.

Prom Night is one of the most memorable nights of a teenage girl’s life and finding the perfect dress is one of the biggest parts of it. The memories made while shopping for prom and the journey to finding the dress is something that can be remembered forever.
