“It’s just my favorite time of the year. The whole world changes color,” Lorelai Gilmore says in Gilmore Girls.
As temperatures decrease and the sky gets darker, it is finally safe to say that fall is here. With the large temperature drop into the 50’s, there is nothing I want to do more than curl up on my couch and watch my favorite fall comfort shows.

While some people’s ideas of fall shows may differ, I feel it is indisputable that Gilmore Girls is an absolutely iconic symbol of the fall season. Gilmore Girls, premiering on Oct. 5, 2000, started by airing on WB on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. The show gained rapid popularity after the first season due to the charming, relatable personalities of the characters and the warm aesthetics of the show. It is a perfect watch for the fall season, as the fictional town of Star’s Hollow perfectly embodies the community and vibes of a small town, especially during fall. Pumpkins, hot chocolate, small town warmth, and teen angst come together for the quintessential fall. And if you ever need any motivation to finish that homework you’ve been procrastinating, Rory Gilmore’s character will definitely remind you of the rewards for doing your work.

On the gloomier side of fall, the show The Vampire Diaries is the perfect dark and moody show for you to binge late at night. The Vampire Diaries revolves around the life of one, human girl who lost her parents and was pulled into the world of vampires and mystery. The show is especially perfect for you if you enjoy the “two brothers fighting for one girl” trope. (Think The Summer I Turned Pretty or My Life with the Walter Boys, but with supernatural choices.) If you enjoy this show, you might also enjoy American Horror Story and Stranger Things. American Horror Story is an angsty, unnerving show that will keep you on your toes every episode. Seeing as Stranger Things Season 5 is coming out soon, it is definitely time for a rewatch to get back into the mood and to predict who will make it through the final season. (Save Steve.) If you find that these shows are too modern for your taste, you might enjoy the horror mystery show debuting in the 90’s known as Twin Peaks.

If you are looking for a throwback to the year 2022, it is the perfect time to rewatch the hit show Wednesday. Jenna Ortega, lead actress, reached shocking levels of popularity from her leading role as Wednesday Addams. Seasons 1 and 2 will transport you to a spooky, Halloween-esque school where wizards, sirens, and gorgons study, hang, and fight monsters. Season 1 presents a mystery with a shocking conclusion, while Season 2 increases the action and the danger to the dark heroine.
If you aren’t as caught up on the fall aesthetics as some may be, it is worth checking out a new show this season called Welcome to Derry. Based on the famous horror movie series known as It, this show includes a new cast and director to prequel the famous It movies.
