Hard work, dedication, and discipline has all paid off for the seniors on the girls lacrosse team, as multiple athletes are committed to playing lacrosse at the collegiate level and carry their passion beyond high school
Many of the athletes who are playing at the collegiate level include seniors Mia Gyure, Addie Owen-Kren, Karson Filut, Kadison Rood, Sophie Adanitsch, Lily Drenski, and Mya Parrot.
Each of these athletes chose colleges based on playing opportunity, coaching staff, team culture, academics and majors, scholarships, competition, future opportunities, and the facilities and resources the colleges provide.

Addie Owen-Kren
Attending: Butler University in Indianapolis
“I chose Butler University because of the competitive conference, the school atmosphere, and the team and coaches,” Owen-Kren said.
Owen-Kren is most excited to get a fresh start and meet her new teammates though she admits she is scared to leave her friends at SHS and be away from her family. To get prepared to play at the collegiate level she is training everyday, lifting, and working on lacrosse work.

Mia Gyure
Attending: Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania
“I chose Slippery Rock because they had a highly competitive women’s lacrosse program last year. They were in the final four last year and are currently undefeated at 15-0. I liked that the school had a bigger student population, and how close it is to a big city,” Gyure said.
Mia is most excited to play and compete at the next level.
“The rules in college lacrosse are different than in high school and I believe I will enjoy playing college more.”
While Gyure is excited to meet her new teammates and get to enjoy college, the part she is most scared of is the intensity.
“Just like coming into a high school team, the freshmen are the underdogs and you have to earn your spot,” Gyure said.
Over the summer, she will receive a workout packet that will set her up with the workout plans she will be doing. She is also participating in a league over the summer with college athletes and girls who have committed to colleges. She will also be focusing on doing her best to prepare for the challenge of playing on a collegiate team mentally.

Lily Drenski
Attending: Wingate University in North Carolina
Drenski chose Wingate University based on the people.
“From my very first visit to the lacrosse program, I immediately fell in love with the culture my coach has built there. It felt like something I truly wanted to be a part of,” Drenski said.
She is most excited to just play lacrosse.
“I have always dreamed of playing at the next level, and I am beyond excited to have that opportunity.”
Drenski stated that she’s not that nervous to play because she has already met her teammates and they have made her feel extremely comfortable though Wingate is about eight hours away from home, so she might miss home a little bit.
To get prepared Lily is planning out her dorm essentials, staying consistent with workouts to get her ready for season, and getting to know her new roommate.

Sophie Adanitsch
Attending: Nova Southeastern University in Florida
Adanitsch chose the school because of the education they offer. She is majoring in nursing and the university has a significant number of students entering the medical field.
Since Adantisch started playing lacrosse, she always wanted to play down south because of her love for Florida. Her school is located in Fort Lauderdale, and she is looking forward to being by the beach.
“I am most excited to make new friends, be a part of a college program and to be near the beach,” Adanitsch said.
Adanitsch is most scared to be away from her family and having to figure out how to balance her academics and athletics.
Sophie is taking classes over the summer to try and decrease her workload and working on time management.

Mya Parrot
Attending: Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania

Karson Filut
Attending: Catawba College in North Carolina

Kadison Rood
